Signal Acquirer

Quickly align your TV aerial for the best signal

Installing a new TV antenna at your home? Travelling around Australia and looking to find the best TV signal from your caravan? Signal Acquirer can help if you’re in Australia.

Using Signal Acquirer you can easily find your nearest Digital TV (DTV) transmission tower using line-of-sight calculations, and be shown which way to point your antenna using the in-app directions.

Other features include:

  • View the bearing to your closest or selected site, so you can easily align your antenna
  • Sort nearby transmission sites by distance or estimated signal strength- See the straight-line distance between your location and the site
  • View detailed information about each transmitter at the site, including polarisation, frequency and channel information

Signal Acquirer uses a database of more than 620 sites and nearly 2600 DTV transmitters across Australia, provided by the Australian Communications and Media Authority under a Creative Commons license.

Note: This app works offline, and doesn’t require an internet connection. For signal, distance and nearest tower calculations, it will require you to grant location permissions, but all processing is done on device.

Accuracy of the estimated signal strength may vary, and is based on theoretical line of sight radio strength formulas. It doesn’t take into consideration buildings, mountains or other obstacles that may block your tower’s DTV signal. Actual signal strength may vary.
